TOP THREE: BANGERS: NUMBER 1: “Ace of Spades,” by Motörhead

Personal, subjective rankings with a short commentary.

“Music!” – Mike from The Young Ones (Series 2, Episode 1: “Bambi”)

Ace of Spades

Bronze Records (1980)

Motörhead and the Young Ones, a perfect pair. Released in 1980, “Ace of Spades” stands as a common ancestor to British heavy metal, punk rock, and hard rock. The banger starts with Lemmy playing his bass like a guitar. In the episode “Bambi,” the titular young ones play the song over a montage of them racing to the train station in order to appear on the game show University Challenge. In an episode with several standout scenes, “Ace of Spades” still tops it for me.
